BMLC Projects & Goals
How do we make lake life better?
Each year our group reviews the suggestions that were brought before us to decide if we can do and how we are going to do it. We decided it was best to work on both easy and hard projects by establishing short range and long range goals with some of these projects.
Some are about volunteering and giving back and some are going to require some investment and fundraising. With the amount of people that love this lake we feel we just need to get the ball rolling and see where we end up!
Here are some of the projects that we have started working towards so if you see one that really piques your interest come join us get it done!
Dock additions and refurbishments
BLMC is partnering with Nebraska Game & Parks to refurbish and deploy multiple additional docks around the lake to improve the usability of the boat ramp areas in some of the higher traffic locations to start with. Some of the docks need varying degrees of work and investment to get them back up to snuff and make it safe to be used. The objective is to allow space for boating tie-ups that wont impede the loading and unloading at our main boat launches. This will also allow for less chaos and negative boater interactions when getting on or off the water!

On Going Goal!
North Shore Bike Trail
In conjunction with our partners at Nebraska Game & Parks and Central Water District, we are investigating the objective of building a trail that could be used for safely biking, walking, trail running, hiking and more depending on the season. The initial thought would be to run it from Martin Bay to Cedar View essentially connecting the state parks and communities on the north side of the lake.
This is a long term project and will have a subcommittee allocated to move it forward.

Long Term Goals
Keep Keith County Beautiful
Lake Mac is always needing a helping hand to keep it as pristine as possible and the Keep Keith County Beautiful group allows for BMLC to earn money for our projects by enlisting people to help pick up trash and report it! If you enjoy beachcombing, might as well help us to earn some funds! More details will be forthcoming...

Anytime is a good time!
Youth Fishing Tournement
Each year Lake Mac is the site for a large fishing tournament geared towards our younger sportsmen and women. This fantastic event is put on by Youth Outdoors and in 2024 we saw 77 teams of youth with their adult team mate. This is a marquee event held at Van's with prizes for every team that competes! BMLC volunteers give their time to assist in putting on this worthy event!

Annual Event every June!
Kites & Castles Day at the lake
Each July the only sand castle building contest occurs around Martin Bay and attracts a large number of tourists and locals. We have been invited to judge these creations and will have a tent to hand out water and promote the BMLC so will be looking for volunteers of all kinds!

Family Fun Activities
Improve PWC regulations for Minors
We all love the thrill of a personal water craft but over the last several years we believe that there should be tougher regulations on minors that operate these PWC when renting or using including a license and boaters safety courses. Every injury and lost life is one that didn't need to happen with a little more safety regulation requirements.
This will require legislative effort and canvassing for support if we find a senator to carry the amendment.
